TRAVEL ADVISORY: OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES ON NORTHBOUND SOUTH GRAND ISLAND BRIDGE BEGINNING FRIDAY

Northbound South Grand Island Bridge to be Reduced to One Lane on Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 P.M. Through 9 A.M.

Scheduled Closures to Accommodate Bridge Inspection and Routine Maintenance

The New York State Thruway Authority today announced overnight lane closures on the northbound South Grand Island Bridge starting on Friday, Sept. 27. The closures will allow crews to inspect the bridge as required every two years by the National Bridge Inspection Standards. Routine maintenance will also be performed.

On Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 p.m. through 9 a.m., the right lane on the northbound South Grand Island Bridge will be closed to traffic.
Motorists are urged to be alert and follow the posted work zone speed limits. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
To further enhance safety for workers in a work zone, Governor Hochul signed legislation establishing the Automated Work Zone Speed Enforcement pilot program. The safety enforcement program began in April 2023 and is in effect in various active construction zones on the Thruway. Work zones with speed camera enforcement will have clear signage leading up to it and motorists violating the posted speed limit within the work zone will be fined. More information on the program can be found here.
