Tree harvest to begin at Big Hollow

posted on 9/30/24

A management harvest on the south side of Big Hollow Lake is scheduled to begin Thursday, October 3. The public is asked to avoid this area while the work is underway. Des Moines County Conservation will post on its social media pages when the work is complete.

The harvest is being done as part of a long-established forest management plan developed in consultation with the Iowa DNR.

This harvest, the planning process for which has been nearly two years in the making, will thin the canopy, making room for a new generation of native hardwoods that local wildlife depend on. The process is being administered by consultants from Geode Forestry.
