(Charleston, W. Va.) - During Monday's regularly scheduled meeting, Charleston City Council approved "Citizen Appreciation Parking." This waives hourly parking fees at all metered on-street parking spaces on November 23, November 30, December 7, December 14, December 21, and December 28.
"With the holidays right around the corner, we expect to see more folks in our shops and restaurants, and attending local events," said Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin. "By offering more free parking options on Saturdays we make it easier for folks to support our local businesses-the backbone of our community and our economy."
"We're excited to offer more free parking options during the holiday season as part of our efforts to support our local community," said Council Member Mary Beth Hoover, Chairperson for Planning/Streets & Traffic Committee. "Citizen Appreciation Parking encourages residents and visitors to shop local, making it easier for everyone to enjoy area shops, restaurants, and holiday events."
Free parking is also available in city-owned parking garages all day on Saturdays and Sundays, from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on weekdays, and on city-observed holidays - except during special event parking.
