Law professor appointed to Superior Court

Justice minister Arif Virani has appointed law professor Jasminka Kalajdzic a judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario in Windsor.

"I loved the 15 years I spent at Windsor Law. It is an incredible place to work and grow as a legal scholar," Kalajdzic said. "I am honoured now to be a judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Windsor, and to continue serving the community I call home."

For the past 15 years, Justice Kalajdzic has been a trailblazer at Windsor Law. She was the first Windsor Law faculty member to be elected a bencher of the Law Society of Ontario in 2023. She also is the founding director of the country's first Class Action Clinic.

Kalajdzic joined the Faculty of Law in 2009 after 12 years in private practice as a civil litigator. Her classes in evidence, class actions, access to justice, and legal ethics have always had long waiting lists.

In 2021, she received the inaugural Excellence in Class Actions Award from the Ontario Bar Association, and the University of Windsor Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to University Teaching. In 2023, she was honoured by the bar association for her significant contributions to access to justice. She has published three books and dozens of peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and reports on all aspects of class action litigation, among other topics.
