President Meloni’s telephone conversation with the King of Jordan

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

President Meloni expressed her deep concern for the growing tensions in the Middle East, and thanked King Abdullah for his leadership in the tireless pursuit of sustainable peace, agreeing with him on the absolute need to avoid the conflict spreading to the rest of the region.

The importance of inviting all parties to act with moderation and to refrain from initiatives that could undermine prospects for dialogue was stressed.

The two leaders also agreed that the real risk of escalation makes it even more necessary to complete negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages. They also reiterated their common commitment to strengthening humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip's population, including through the Food for Gaza initiative, and to keep working towards a sustainable and lasting political solution.

President Meloni and King Abdullah agreed it would be opportune to maintain close coordination, starting already in the next few days.
