Hull iday fun weekly round up: Things you can do with your children during the school holidays this week

There are so many fun activities for your children to do this summer, many of them for free.

Medieval Mayhem!
When? Saturday 27 - Sunday 28 July
Where? The Museums Quarter on High Street in Hull City Centre
What does it cost? It's free!
What is it? Enjoy a weekend of medieval merriment and mayhem for all the family, as the Museums Quarter is transformed into a medieval encampment.

Come face-to-face with knights in armour, a unit of archers, medieval residents, craftspeople and musicians.

Visitors will have the chance to delve deeper into what life was like in the medieval period by interacting with the knights and their supporters, enjoy live medieval music and pottery demonstrations and explore living history displays on everything from medicine to fletching and cooking.

Young Artist Open exhibition and 2024 Open exhibition
When? From now - Sunday 22 September
Where? The Ferens Art Gallery
What does it cost? It's free!
What is it? The Young Artist Open exhibition returns to Ferens Art Gallery for its 20^th year. The exhibition celebrates the creative talent of young people in Hull and the surrounding area. Artworks are submitted by individuals, schools, and local community groups, aged 15 and under.

The Open Exhibition is Ferens' annual celebration of Hull's incredible artistic talent. It's an opportunity for local artists to display and sell their work, as well as for visitors to get an insight into the thriving art community in the city.

The British Chess Championships
When? Thursday 25 July - Sunday 4 August
Where? Hull City Hall and the DoubleTree by Hilton
What does it cost? It's free!
What is it? Enjoy a host of Championship events and tournaments over the 10 days of the British Chess Championships competition. There will be a bookstall, junior coaching, and live commentary from the venues. There will be a full programme of social and outdoor events, including lectures, simuls, drop-in chess, and local tours/walks around the city.

Puppet Fun at the Streetlife Museum
When? Wednesday 31 July, 1.00pm - 3.00pm
Where? The Streetlife Museum, High Street
What does it cost? It's free!
What is it? Children can make their own mini puppet theatre in this fun craft activity inspired by the traditional toys and games at the Streetlife Museum.

This activity is part of the Healthy Holidays Hull programme funded by Hull City Council and the Department for Education. As part of the activity, free healthy snacks will be available for all children.

Bora Shabba Family Fun Day
When? Thursday 1 August,10.00am - 3.00pm
Where? Oasis Hull (formerly Newland Community Church), 310 Newland Avenue
What does it cost? It's free!
What is it? It's a multicultural fun-filled day including free food, activities, workshops, arts and crafts, face painting, a bouncy castle and martial arts. Be there at 10.00am to see the Lord Mayor officially open the event.

Hull Brick FestivalWhen? Saturday 3 August, 10.00am - 4.00pm
Where? The Allam Sport Centre, Inglemire Lane
What does it cost? £7 for adults, £5 for children, or £18 for a family ticket from EventBrite.
What is it? It's a LEGO fan event dedicated to all things brick! It welcomes families, collectors, adult builders and every other kind of LEGO fan. There'll be lots to see and do including speed building competitions, large scale displays, activities, traders selling loose bricks, new LEGO sets, retired LEGO sets, minifigures and accessories plus a dedicated building area.

Spotlight: East Park Animal Education Centre
When? Open daily from 10.30am to 3.45pm. Last entry is 3pm.
Where? East Park, Holderness Road, Hull, HU8 8JU
What does it cost? It's free!
What is it? The centre is home to a wide range of domestic, farm and exotic animals. The centre also hosts a range of events to engage and educate people of all ages about animals and the environment.
