"As I see it, this is our future. I am glad that this award has become prestigious and that it is considered the crown in the field of molecular biology", she added.
"I thank the Foundation for supporting young people. The award of the "Goran Ljubijankić" Foundation, which was sparked by the sad event of Dr. Ljubijankić's passing, has turned into something beautiful. I thank the winners for using their intelligence and abilities in the best way possible", concluded Minister Begović.
From 1992 to 1995 Dr. Goran Ljubijankić was a Postdoctoral fellow in the Microbiology lab, ICGEB Trieste, headed by Dr. Carlo V. Bruschi. He was involved in scientific research at the Institute for Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Belgrade and after his tragic death in 2003, a foundation bearing his name was established by IMGGE with the help and support of his parents and his colleagues from ICGEB Trieste. The goal of the Foundation is to help young promising scientists from Serbia, who are engaged in research in the field of molecular biology. The awards are handed to the winners every year on 30 January, Dr. Ljubijankić's birthday.
