City of Killeen opens submissions for Hometown Heroes banners

KILLEEN, Texas (Aug. 1, 2024) - The City of Killeen and the National Mounted Warfare Foundation are partnering for the third year in the row to highlight local military veterans by displaying them on our Hometown Heroes banners throughout the Historic Downtown District.

Sixty military veteran banners will be displayed throughout the month of November and residents can submit their entries at no cost at www.KilleentTexas.gov/Downtown.

The banners are an effort to honor local active-duty, retired or those veterans who have served at Fort Cavazos at any time.

This is the third year the banners will be hung, as the initiative began in 2022.

Submissions for Hometown Heroes can be made at www.KilleenTexas.gov/Downtown and can be submitted by relatives, friends or the servicemembers. The deadline for submitting nominations is Sept. 16 and only 60 will be accepted.
