The organization worked closely with the PA Game Commission to review options to find a solution that would recognize the benefits and popularity of game hunting, while also creating a safe hospital campus for staff, patients and visitors. The designation also aligns the property with state guidelines around hunting restrictions on unique properties like hospital campuses.
The Stewardship Forest will continue to be open to the public for hiking and biking.
The Stewardship Forest will be posted for archery hunting only as part of the Game Commission's Hunter Access Program. As part of the program, Geisinger and the region will enjoy a more convenient experience during archery seasons and benefits for the land.
The archery-only designation takes effect immediately with the 2024 hunting season.
