Kenilworth Courts' Families Celebrate Community with Darrell Green

Residents and neighbors of Kenilworth Courts hopped on moon bounces, played arcade games, and listened to live music during DCHA's most recent Rebuilding Our Communities Block Party on Sept. 13 - which also included a special appearance by local NFL legend, Darrell Green.

The Saturday event was the latest of several DCHA-hosted neighborhood block parties that have included giveaways, food trucks, and a variety of games and activities for youth.

DCHA staff and student volunteers from Howard University went door to door at Kenilworth Courts to ensure every household received free groceries, which were donated by STATDC Global Solutions. Every kid was able to take a toy home from the toy giveaway.

Hall of Fame cornerback Green joined the festivities, speaking to residents, staff and service providers, and taking photos with attendees. He even tossed a football around with some of the kids.

Residents and neighbors could meet cartoon character Mickey Mouse, get a fresh haircut, visit the face painting station, play in the foam pit, or cool off with a trip down the water slide.

Nearly 50 service providers participated in the Block Party, offering resources and sharing information on education and workforce development programs, job opportunities, and other services available for youth, seniors, and families in the District. Nonprofits, academic institutions, private employers, and DC government agencies make up the service providers.
