Tap In Dallas Podcast: Featuring Director Jennifer Nicewander, Office Bond & Contruction Management the City of Dallas

Tap In and Watch

On the latest episode of Tap In Dallas, we had the privilege of speaking with Jennifer Nicewander, the City of Dallas' Director of Bond & Contruction Management, who provided insightful details about the recently approved $1.25 billion bond. This bond, which Dallas voters overwhelmingly supported in May 2024, will fund critical improvements to the city, including streets, storm drains, police facilities, and recreation centers. One of the most reassuring aspects of this bond is that it will not result in an increase in taxes. However, the overall needs of the city are much greater, with estimates reaching $18 billion.

Director Nicewander highlighted that while this bond represents a significant step toward addressing the city's infrastructure challenges, ongoing efforts and engagement from the community will be crucial to make sure future funding reflects the needs of all Dallas residents. In excerpts from our conversation, she emphasized:

"This bond is critical for maintaining and upgrading essential infrastructure, but it's just the beginning. With the gap between what the bond can cover and the city's $18 billion needs, we need the voices of Dallas residents to guide how future bonds will be structured and spent."

We encourage all residents to take the time to complete the City of Dallas Bond Survey and share their experiences and input on the bond approval process. Your feedback helps shape the future of our city. Director Nicewander stressed the importance of participation:

"If you feel you didn't have enough input or would like better communication in the future, this survey is the perfect way to make your voice heard. Dallas' needs are evolving, and we want to ensure we meet them in the most effective way possible."

The survey is availablehere, and we urge all residents to participate in this important initiative to improve our city's communication and engagement in future bond processes.

National Night Out is a nationwide event designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, and strengthen community-police partnerships. Here in Dallas, we believe that strong neighborhoods are the backbone of a safer, more vibrant city. This is your chance to meet your neighbors, have fun, and learn more about how we can all work together to keep our streets safe.

Why Participate?

  • Strengthen Relationships: National Night Out is a great opportunity to meet the officers who patrol your neighborhood, as well as city leaders and local representatives. This year, Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia and Mayor Eric Johnson will be visiting different block parties across the city to show their support.
  • Fun for the Family: With block parties, BBQs, games, and entertainment, NNO is perfect for the whole family. From bounce houses for kids to music and food for adults, there's something for everyone to enjoy!
  • Learn About Crime Prevention: Neighborhood watch programs, safety tips, and resources will be available to help residents stay informed and empowered to take action.

How to Get Involved:

  • Spread the Word: Encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to join in on the fun. The more people who participate, the stronger our community becomes.

Let's Make This Year's NNO the Best Yet!

We can all play a part in making Dallas a safer place to live, work, and raise a family. National Night Out is a celebration of that commitment. So, gather your neighbors, fire up the grill, and let's make this year's event a night to remember.
