UA Little Rock Launches New Certificate Program Tailored for New and Seasoned Supervisors and Managers

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has created a dynamic new certificate program for professionals looking to enhance their management skills.

The six-week Supervisor/Management Certificate Program is meticulously designed for emerging and established supervisors, managers, and human resources (HR) professionals aiming to refine their people management skills for today's dynamic workplace.

"In an era where effective leadership at all levels is a critical driver of organizational success, the demand for skilled supervisors and managers is more pronounced than ever," said Dr. Otmar Varela, professor of management and program coordinator. "With the evolving workplace dynamics, there's a growing need for leaders who are not only adept at managing tasks but are also capable of inspiring excellence, sparking innovation, and driving execution. The Supervisor Management Certificate is meticulously designed to equip participants with the competencies necessary to achieve such goals."

Participants will take a series of workshops that guide them from the foundations of managing individuals to an understanding of how organizations outperform competitors. Topics include inspiring excellence in performance, managing difficult conversations at work, strategic vision, and foundations of employment law. The certificate is priced to make it highly accessible to the community. Additionally, organizations might be eligible for a 50 percent reimbursement of its cost.

"This certificate is the result of many conversations with local business leaders and HR professionals who told us what their unit leaders need to know to succeed," Varela said. "Through these six workshops, people can hone their skills and learn how to lead with confidence and effectiveness."

Classes for the first cohort of the Supervisor Management Certificate will begin in late August. The certificate program is administered by the UA Little Rock Office of Extended Education and taught by knowledgeable and experienced faculty members from the UA Little Rock School of Business. Any participant who completes the certificate program and wishes to further their business education will earn one credit hour toward the MBA program at UA Little Rock.
