Pedrozo Appointed to National Leadership Position on Agriculture and Rural Affairs

National Association of Counties (NACo) President James Gore appointed Merced County, Calif. Supervisor Josh Pedrozo to a one-year term as Chairman of the NACo Agriculture and Rural Affairs Policy Steering Committee.

Gore, a Supervisor in Sonoma County, Calif., issued leadership appointments shortly after being sworn in as NACo's president on July 15, at the conclusion of NACo's annual conference, the nation's largest convening of county leaders.

"Agriculture is the driving force of our local economy," Pedrozo said. "In this role, I look forward to continued advancement of initiatives and programs that both protect and strengthen this vitally-important industry."

Pedrozo was born and raised in Merced County and grew up on a dairy farm. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2005, majoring in Agricultural Business with a concentration in finance. Following an internship in Washington, DC, Pedrozo received his Master of Public Administratoin from Golden Gate University in San Francisco and his teaching credential from Teacher's College of San Joaquin. He worked as a Social Science teacher for more than 12 years. Pedrozo was also elected to the Merced City Council in 2009 and again in 2013, terming out in 2018. He was elected to the Merced County Board of Supervisors (District 2) in 2020 and currently serves as the Board's Vice-Chairman. Pedrozo has been married to his wife, Heidi, for 16 years and they have two children, Owen and Lucy.

The Agriculture and Rural Affairs Policy Steering Committee is responsible for NACo policy on all matters pertaining to agriculture, rural development, U.S. Department of Agriculture programs, rural energy development, research and extension, food safety, and conservation programs.
