UW-Platteville announces new partnership with Madison College in data science

Continuing their ongoing partnership, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Madison Collegehave formalized a new articulation agreement to streamline the transfer process for students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in data science. Effective July 1, 2024, this agreement underscores both institutions' commitment to academic collaboration and student success.

Qualified Madison College students completing an Associate of Science degree will now have guaranteed admission into UW-Platteville's Bachelor of Science in data science program, provided they meet UW-Platteville's minimum admission requirements. Key provisions include completion of prerequisite courses such as Basic Statistics and Computer Science at Madison College before enrolling at UW-Platteville.

"We are excited to grow our partnership with Madison College, offering a clear pathway for students interested in data science," said Dr. Barb Barnet, professor and chair of the UW-Platteville Department of Mathematics. "This agreement ensures a seamless transition for students, allowing them to maximize their educational opportunities and career readiness."

The transfer pathway identifies courses that align with UW-Platteville's curriculum, facilitating a smooth progression toward degree completion. After completing their Associate of Science degree, students transferring from Madison College will need to take a minimum of 55 additional credits at UW-Platteville to earn their Bachelor of Science in data science.

The new agreement opens the door for more students to pursue the growing field of data science, which is projected to expand by 35% in the coming years. Data scientists are in high demand across various industries, including engineering, healthcare, accounting and finance, government agencies and many more.

In addition to this agreement, UW-Platteville has defined pathways for Madison College students in several other STEM-related fields include mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and industrial and systems engineering.
