Sen. Fontana Announces Over $7.2 Million for School Building Upgrades

Allegheny County - October 23, 2024 - Today, State Senator Wayne Fontana announced grants totaling $7,250,000 to three schools in the 42nd Senatorial District for facility improvement projects.

"I am proud to support these grant awards to renovate our public school facilities," said Sen. Fontana. "Investing in public education means investing in public school buildings, so that each and every one of our children, regardless of ZIP Code, can learn in a clean, safe, environment."

The Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects, including roof repairs and replacement, HVAC systems, energy-saving projects, and internet connectivity.

School Districts in the 42nd Senatorial District, represented by Sen. Fontana, received the following:

Carlynton - $500,000 towards the renovation of Carnegie Elementary School, including plumbing, HVAC, health and safety, energy savings, window repair/replacement, internet connectivity, and accessibility.

Pittsburgh - $5,000,000 to install HVAC digital control systems at 11 school facilities, including Arsenal PreK-5 and Arsenal 6-9, Classical, Clayton Academy, Creative and Performing Arts, and King, in the 42nd District.

Sto-Rox - $1,750,000 towards HVAC upgrades, including classroom unit ventilators, air handling units, and automated control system to improve indoor air quality and system efficiencies at the Upper Elementary and the Junior/Senior High School facilities.

In just the last twenty-one months, Sen. Fontana has secured nearly $13.4 million in state funding for capital repairs and safety improvements at schools in his district.
