Alpharetta Under Tropical Storm Warning – We Are Prepared

Alpharetta is now under a Tropical Storm Warning and will begin to see and feel the impacts of Hurricane Helene around 1AM Friday. These impacts are expected to include:

* Sustained winds approaching 60 mph with gusts of 80+ mph
* Heavy rain (an additional 6 to 8 inches tonight)
* Widespread tree fall
* Extended power outages

Over the past 48 hours, the City of Alpharetta has been working hard to prepare for this storm, and our team is ready to lead our community through this event and help with the recovery afterward. We activated our Emergency Operations Center early this morning and have our public safety, public works, and other city teams set in rotations to maintain 24-hour operations for an extended period. Our vehicles are fueled, our equipment is ready, and our plan is in place.

We urge all residents to prioritize safety during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Here are some things that you can do:

STAY INFORMED
Follow trusted sources like the National Weather Service, the City of Alpharetta, and local news for the latest information. The City will be updating our website (www.alpharetta.ga.us) and social media accounts (Facebook, Nextdoor, Twitter) throughout the storm event. Be sure to follow the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety on those social media platforms for real-time updates and safety tips.

HAVE A PLAN
Ensure your family is prepared with the necessary supplies (food, water, medications, etc.) so that you can remain safe and comfortable in the event of an extended power outage. A good rule of thumb is to have supplies to last through 72 hours.

STAY INDOORS
Avoid unnecessary travel and stay off of the roads during and immediately after the storm so that emergency personnel and utility crews can move quickly and operate. The high winds expected with this storm will be capable of hurtling debris with enough force to cause serious injury, and any power lines that come down will pose the danger of electrocution.

CALL 911 ONLY FOR LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCIES
Do not call 911 to report downed trees, power outages, or other non-life-threatening situations. If you need police or fire services for non-life-threatening issues, call 678-297-6300. To report other issues, use our SeeClickFix app available on your smartphone or via the City website (https://www.alpharetta.ga.us/about/tools-available/seeclickfix).
