CONCORD ESPORTS ROCKET LEAGUE CONTINUES SUCCESFUL SEASON WITH FIRST-EVER ECC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
ATHENS, WV - Concord University's Esports program ended their fall season on another high note, claiming their first-ever East Coast Conference (ECC) National Championship for Rocket League. The Championship match was on December 9th where they defeated Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) 4-1. The championship roster featured Simas Gurskis (Simas), Shaun Murindagomo (Crispy), Chase Koger (Helix), and Taylor Thimmesh (Tay) an alternate that played critical minutes on their road to capturing yet another championship.
Program Director, Austin Clay mentioned that this was the program's first time competing in ECC as they joined the league over the Summer. The season mirrors the standard format of collegiate Esports, where the season was broken up into 7 regular season matches to determine the seeding for playoffs. Jonathan Rose, Marketing & Brand Director, and Rocket League coach reflected on the team's success, "It was an incredible experience to be a part of ECC and I am extremely proud of the continued success of our Rocket League team. This our first time in program history where we have won two national championships in one semester, and we are all extremely excited to continue to build off this momentum headed into the spring."
Looking ahead, Director Clay said the team and staff are now fully focused on the Spring semester where they plan to defend their titles and qualify for the CECC May Madness tournament in Arlington, TX. Clay said this in his closing thoughts, "Ending the fall season with our RL team winning ECC was an incredible achievement and a testament to their hard work and dedication. I couldn't be prouder of what this team accomplished. We plan to carry this momentum into the spring season as we set our sights on Texas. The grind does not stop for this team, they have the talent, passion, and drive to achieve even greater things." Concord Esports looks to carry this championship momentum into the Spring season as they continue to set the standard for excellence in collegiate Esports.
