LT. GOVERNOR BYSIEWICZ STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT DECISION TO DISMISS IDAHO V. UNITED STATES

(HARTFORD, CT) - Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz released the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to dismiss the case of Idaho v. United States, allowing doctors in Idaho to perform emergency abortions despite state-level restrictions while the case returns to the lower courts.

"The Supreme Court's decision to delay an opinion on emergency room care will endanger the lives and health of pregnant patients experiencing medical emergencies. Unfortunately, the court had the opportunity to bring clarity and certainty to accessing emergency care, and they punted. The amount of confusion and anxiety from this and similar decisions will have devastating consequences - whether that's pregnant patients being fearful of seeking care in an emergency, or providers being fearful of offering adequate care to their patients or properly preparing medical students for treating emergencies."
