Update

Correction to the victims name, Reynaldo Collado.

On Sunday, September 22nd, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Troopers responded to the Southern State Parkway westbound in the vicinity of exit 39S, town of Babylon, Suffolk County for a report of a two-car motor vehicle collision. Investigation revealed a white Honda Civic operated by Felix Jose Pantaleon Tavarez, age 22 of Lindenhurst, was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a gray Honda CRV operated by ReynaldoCollado, age 49 of West Babylon. The collision caused both vehicles to exit the roadway and come to rest in the tree line. Collado, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 4 additional occupants for the CRV, as well as Pantaleon Tarvarez were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

This collision is under investigation and the State Police is asking for any witnesses or anyone with information to call (631) 756-3300.
