Eesti Pank is issuing a coin folder for the centenary of the Estonian Border Guard

A coin folder to mark the centenary of the Estonian Border Guard will go on sale on 24 November and will contain one of each of the eight circulating coins minted in 2022. The coin folder will be priced at 18 euros and will be on sale from Thursday in the Eesti Pank Museum shop and the Omniva online store.

"As the central bank we want to use our numismatic products to highlight people and events that are important for the Estonian state and Estonian people. The vital work done by Estonian border guards has made them a calling card for foreign visitors to Estonia and at the same time an important provider of security to guard the independence of our nation. The difficult security situation of the world today means that none of us needs reminding how important the Border Guard is, and we wanted to use this product to wish all those securing the Estonian border great fortitude and confidence in keeping our frontier safe", said Governor of Eesti Pank Madis Müller.

"Every Estonian euro coin shows the Estonian border", noted Egert Belitšev, the head of the Border Guard Division of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board. "The coin folder dedicated to the centenary of the Border Guard tells the story of the border in pictures and words, its importance and the people who stand fast every day so that the door to our country, the Estonian border, should stay secure and we can feel we are safe and protected. The coin folder is a wonderful gift for the centenary year of the Border Guard!"

This year marks 100 years since the Border Guard was set up. The Estonian Border Guard was founded in 1922 and its work was interrupted in 1940 by the Soviet Occupation. The government instated new control points on the economic border on 1 November 1990, which effectively meant the return of the Estonian Border Guard. Although the national border has varied over time, the core task of the Border Guard has remained the same of securing the border and protecting the values and freedoms that are so important for the people of Estonia.

The coin folder for the centenary of the Estonian Border Guard contains one of each of the eight circulating coins minted in 2022. The folder was designed by Aleksandr Kanunnikov of Bonamore OÜ, and 7500 have been made. The coin folder will sell for 18 euros. The folder can be bought from the Eesti Pank museum shop during its opening hours, and the Omniva online shop
