New Castle County Executive Meyer announces County IT Department retains #3 national ranking

New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer announced today that our Information Systems Department steadfastly held onto the #3 national ranking awarded by the Center for Digital Government (CDG) and National Association of Counties (NACo) for exemplary strategies and accomplishments in our population category. New Castle County has been a top ten winner of the Annual Digital Counties Survey for the past five years, demonstrating forward-thinking goals, strategic planning, hard work, and strong leadership.This year's Digital Counties Survey winners were recognized for modernizing major systems while championing innovation. New Castle County stood out for countywide efforts moving manual processes to digital platforms, expanding mobile/digital services and field mobility devices, maturing cybersecurity disciplines, and fortifying the infrastructure. Noteworthy accomplishments that impressed the independent underwriters include upgrades to the county websiteimproving accessibility, usability and performance, achieving WCAG 2.2 compliance and an accessibility score of 96%. They also applauded our collaborative effort with the State of Delaware Ombudsman to increase transparency and centralize services with a Community Association Portal to provide residents a self-service one-stop shop for governing documents and resources for common interest communities. Other factors that elevated New Castle County among the top finishers include efforts to improve our cybersecurity posture with detailed incident response plans, as well as plans to work with leadership to develop policies around the responsible use of AI.

County Exec Meyer joined Jon Yearly, acting Chief of Technology, and Mike Hojnicki, the former CTO, at the annual NACo Conference held this year in Hillsborough County, FL on July 12th to proudly accept this prestigious award and honor all the other top ten counties for their accomplishments. At the NACo Awards event, CTO Hojnicki shared "we're very fortunate to have a leadership team and business community who trust our ability to explore the art of the possible. Deputy CTO Yearly remarked, 'IS strategies invest in outcomes, and we aim to deliver new technology with a human-centered design approach'. County Exec Meyer added "I'm extremely proud of the entire IS staff for all that they do to improve government services for residents.'
