Frederick Police Officers Injured During Arrest of Domestic Violence Suspect

At 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10th, Frederick Police officers were dispatched to a domestic violence incident in the 1000 block of Heather Ridge Drive. Responding officers were provided with the description of a male suspect who fled the scene, and eventually located this individual nearby.

The suspect, later identified as Marcus Deandre Taylor, age 36, initially provided officers with a false name before attempting to flee again. As Taylor fled, he assaulted two Frederick Police officers, causing significant injuries to both officers. Back-up officers eventually located Taylor and took him into custody without further incident. EMS was called to the scene and subsequently transported both officers to Frederick Health Hospital for treatment. One officer was found to have a dislocated shoulder while the other sustained a broken thumb. Both officers will be on restricted duty as they recover from their injuries. Taylor was also taken to FHH for medical clearance before being transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.

In addition to two outstanding warrants for his arrest, Taylor was charged with the following new charges related to this incident:

• Burglary First Degree
• Burglary Third Degree
• Burglary - 4th Degree Theft
• Assault - Second Degree (2 Counts)
• Theft
• Assault - Second Degree (On Law Enforcement Officer)
• Resisting Arrest
• Obstructing & Hindering
• Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

From Chief Lando: "Every day, our officers place themselves in harm's way to keep this city safe. Tonight, two of those officers were assaulted by a suspect who chose to fight and flee rather than surrender peacefully. Because of Mr. Taylor's actions, these officers will be off the street for several weeks while they recover from their injuries. Thankfully we were able to take Taylor into custody quickly before he could injure anyone else. I look forward to seeing Mr. Taylor held accountable for his actions this evening and wish both of my officers a speedy recovery."

Chief Lando also wanted to acknowledge Frederick County Division of Fire & Rescue Services, Frederick County Sheriff's Office, and the Maryland State Police for their assistance last night.
