Cobb County Sheriff's Office Honored with Prestigious Triple Crown Award at National Sheriffs' Association Annual Conference

MARIETTA (July 1, 2024) -The Cobb County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce that it has formally received the esteemed Triple Crown Award at the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) Annual Conference. This prestigious recognition comes after 2.5 years of diligent work to earn CALEA, ACA, and NCCHC accreditations. Of 3,086 agencies nationwide, only 50 have ever been awarded the Triple Crown, making this a significant achievement. The National Sheriffs' Association established the award recognizing law enforcement agencies committed to professional service delivery.

Moreover, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office is the only agency in the country to receive the Triple Crown Award in 2024.

Sheriff Craig Owens expressed his gratitude and pride in the team's dedication and hard work, stating, "This award is a testament to our commitment to excellence in law enforcement, including detention center operations and healthcare standards."

CALEA Certification

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) serves as a credentialing authority for public safety agencies, including law enforcement agencies, training academies, communications centers, and campus public safety agencies. The Cobb County Sheriff's Office underwent a comprehensive audit in June 2023 and received its CALEA Accreditation in November 2023.

ACA Certification

The American Correctional Association (ACA), the oldest and largest accrediting body for the corrections industry, conducted an audit of the Cobb County Sheriff's Office from November 1-3, 2023. The Office achieved a perfect score of 100% on 60 mandatory standards and an impressive 95.9% on 323 non-mandatory standards. Sheriff Owens, along with the Jail Commander and Accreditation Team, traveled to Maryland in January 2024 to officially receive the ACA Accreditation.

NCCHC Certification

The National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) aims to improve the standard of correctional health care across the United States. The Cobb County Sheriff's Office has held the NCCHC Medical Accreditation for over 20 years. In November 2023, the Office completed an audit to receive the NCCHC Mental Health Accreditation, marking a significant milestone as it becomes only the 13th facility nationwide to hold this certification. Additionally, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office is the second agency in the country partnering with Wellpath to achieve this accreditation. The official certificate was awarded in January 2024.

"This achievement underscores our dedication to providing quality health care to detainees in our custody, ensuring they are treated with dignity and receive life-saving support," said Sheriff Owens.

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office remains committed to maintaining the Triple Crown standards and continuously improving its services for the betterment of the community.
