Foreign Secretary Alicia Bárcena took part today in a repatriation ceremony at Felipe Ángeles International Airport commemorating the return of Clara Krause's ashes to Mexico after 105 years.

In her remarks, Secretary Bárcena stated, "Bringing Clara Krause back is both an act of repatriation and the recovery of our historical memory [...] With this act, we honor the life and legacy of our Revolution, the movement through which Mexico shook off the structures of an unjust and oppressive regime, revived its glorious past, and found the strength to realize its aspirations for justice, freedom, and equality."

"President Andrés Manuel López Obrador personally led the repatriation efforts [...] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs takes great pride in contributing to this process. We have fulfilled the task given to us by the President: to defend our historical heritage, which is a fundamental part of the foreign policy of this Fourth Transformation," Secretary Bárcena added.

Following the reception ceremony at the airport, the ashes were transported to the Pachuca municipal cemetery in Hidalgo for interment in General Felipe Ángeles' family crypt.

The repatriation was accomplished through the collaborative efforts of the Foreign Ministry-via the Mexican Embassy in the United States and the Consulate General in New York-along with the Ministries of Defense and Interior, and the Hidalgo State Government.

The ceremony was also attended by Defense Secretary Luis Cresencio Sandoval; Interior Secretary Luisa María Alcalde; Mexican Ambassador to the United States Esteban Moctezuma Barragán; Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean Laura Elena Carrillo; descendants of Clara Krause and General Felipe Ángeles, and Hidalgo state officials.
