In the News: DNC Invests A Historic $2.5 Million to State Parties Nationwide to Supercharge GOTV Efforts and Elect Democrats at All Levels Arrow

Democrats are doing the work on the ground to win elections up and down the ballot across the map

Last week, the DNC announced its latest round of investments, delivering nearly $2.5 million to state parties nationwide. By leveraging record-breaking fundraising, the DNC is rounding out a historic milestone by fulfilling its mission to provide electoral funding and support to all 57 states and territories. These investments will reinforce and expand Democrats' unparalleled ground game by ensuring our teams have every tool they need to earn votes during this critical final stretch to November. The stakes couldn't be higher, and this investment gives Democrats the boost needed to elect Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Walz, and Democrats in critical races down the ballot.

Here's what Americans are seeing on local and national news:

In National News:

On MSNBC: "The DNC is putting the focus on critical down-ballot races. For the first time in its history, the committee has now sent money to every state and territory in the country this cycle. The latest investment totaling nearly $2.5 million aims to help state parties break Republican supermajorities in deep-red states and strengthen voter engagement efforts across the U.S."

On MSNBC, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison:"We have been able to put more resources on the ground into our state parties. And I'm proud because we're doing tribal investments. We're doing all kinds of things to go into communities that we have not always gone into before. And therefore, we're going to be stronger going into a very, very close presidential election."

On MSNBC, Democratic National Committee Deputy Executive Director Roger Lau:"And that's why the DNC is proud that over the course of a year, we've invested in battleground states, coordinated campaigns, we have over 300 offices and 2,000 organizers on the ground… I'm also incredibly proud that the DNC today announced we've not only invested in battleground states but also non-battleground states."

[Griffin Eckstein, 9/27/24]

"The Democratic National Committee is announcing a huge nationwide local party investment, the fundraising boom surrounding Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign lifting Democratic organizing efforts across the country.

"'From the school board to the White House, the DNC is doing the work to elect Democrats to office at all levels of government,' DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said in a statement to Salon. 'These dollars will go to reaching key constituencies, beefing up organizing operations, and giving our teams on the ground the tools they need to earn every vote in the final stretch before Election Day.'"

Politico: DNC will send funding to all state parties to support down-ballot races

[Irie Sentner, 9/27/24]

"The Democratic National Committee is sending money to every state Democratic party in the country for the first time in its history to bolster down-ballot races in the final sprint toward November.

"The nearly $2.5 million investment - shared first with POLITICO - aims to help break Republican supermajorities in deep-red states and strengthen voter engagement efforts across the U.S. It's part of a broader push for increased local support by the DNC, which says it's increased state party funding by 25 percent during Jaime Harrison's tenure as chair.

"The DNC is sending more than $400,000 to Florida, which in a release it called 'a priority state that we know Democrats can win,' focusing on Puerto Rican voter engagement. It's investing almost $100,000 in Missouri to hire organizing staff in hopes Democrats can pick up a handful of seats in the state House and Senate to break a GOP supermajority. And it's even spending about $70,000 in deep-red Idaho, a state that hasn't elected a Democratic senator in over four decades and where Republicans control every arm of the state government."

[Alex Roarty, 9/27/24]

"On Friday, the Democratic National Committee announced it was making a new multi-million-dollar investment in two-dozen states, much of it earmarked for grassroots get-out-the-vote operations less than six weeks before Election Day. But rather than focus exclusively on the presidential race in key battleground states, some of the spending is meant to help Democrats in local races running in states considered uncompetitive at the federal level.

"In Idaho, for example, the party said it is spending $70,000 to hire organizers in tribal communities. In West Virginia, it's investing another $50,000 in GOTV operations to help flip four seats in the state legislature. States like Tennessee, North Dakota, Arkansas and Kansas are also included in the new round of expenditures, according to the DNC."

"'These dollars will go to reaching key constituencies, beefing up organizing operations, and giving our teams on the ground the tools they need to earn every vote in the final stretch before Election Day,' DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said in a press release.

"Some of the newest investments include grants to help down-ballot Democrats in Republican-controlled states, targeted investments specific to what will help in a particular state - like support for certain voting blocs - and hundreds of thousands of dollars aimed at supporting the hiring of Black, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latino, youth and Native American organizers."

"Boasting record-breaking fundraising, the DNC announced the latest tranche of funding as part of the DNC's historic multimillion-dollar investment cycle-to-date for targeted resource deployment. These funds, allocated to both traditionally red and blue states, will help strengthen coordinated campaigns and boost Democratic wins in down-ballot races, like in Tennessee."

[Mini Racker, 9/27/24]

"For the first time ever, national Democrats are investing money in all fifty states. The Democratic National Committee is distributing almost $2.5 million among every state party in the country to boost down-ballot races, Politico reports. A significant chunk of that change-$400,000-is going to Florida, which has grown redder over the years but where Democrats will focus on Puerto Rican voters. Smaller sums will go to even more Republican-leaning states, like Missouri and Idaho, where the party nonetheless believes it could lock up some state-level offices. In the Potato State, for instance, the money will support an organizer in the Nez Perce Reservation and a Latino relational organizer in two counties where elections have recently been decided by less than 100 votes."

For example, money will be used in Florida, New York and Pennsylvania to turn out Puerto Rican voters."
