Denham Springs - On Friday, August 30, 2024, shortly before 10:00 am, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A were notified of a two-vehicle crash on LA 16 near LA 1026. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 24-year-old Curtis Cobbs of Denham Springs and left the passenger in his vehicle in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Cobbs was driving a 2012 Honda Civic north on LA 16, near LA 1026. At the same time, a 2012 Ford F-150 was traveling south on LA 16 near LA 1026. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda crossed the center line, began to rotate, and entered the path of the Ford. As a result, the front of the Ford struck the right rear of the Honda.

Due to the severity of the crash, Cobbs and his passenger suffered severe injuries and were transported to a local hospital, where Cobbs was pronounced dead. His passenger remains in critical condition. Both Cobbs and his passenger were restrained. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained and uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

While not all crashes are survivable, wearing seat belts correctly can significantly improve your chances of survival and reduce injury severity. Ensure that the seatbelt is correctly positioned across your hips and shoulders, and make sure that children are securely fastened in appropriate car seats. These measures are crucial for arriving at your destination safely. Additionally, distracted and inattentive driving remains a leading cause of accidents in our state. You can significantly enhance road safety by taking these simple precautions and adhering to all traffic laws.
