Entries Sought for City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Art Contest

Entries are now being accepted for the 2024-25 City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Public Art Contest and Exhibition.

The exhibit will be used to obtain art for City of Ames Water and Pollution Control facilities. Artists may enter up to three two-dimensional pieces of art for the contest and exhibition. The focus for each piece must be related to this year's theme, "Water in Nature." Entries may be submitted beginning Monday, Sept. 30. Submission deadline is 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, 2025.

"The goal of this year's art contest is to showcase how essential water is to nature," said John Dunn, Water and Pollution Control Director. "Displaying art in the Water and Pollution Control facilities to represent water in nature will highlight the purpose of the facilities."

Water and Pollution Control staff will jury the entries from submitted photos. Artists whose work is selected for exhibition will be notified by Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. Art selected will be on display from Feb. 24, 2025 to March 14, 2025, at the Water Treatment Plant, 1800 E. 13th St. During the exhibit, City of Ames staff and the public will be allowed to vote for "Best in Show" and "People's Choice." In addition, voting will be open on the City of Ames Water and Pollution Control Instagram page for the "Most Likable" award. Only one vote per person per piece will be allowed. "Best in Show" will be awarded $400, "People's Choice" will be awarded $200, and "Most Likable" will be awarded $100. Each piece entered will be considered for purchase by the City for its permanent art collection.
