WASHINGTON - U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) today met with Dr. Mandy Cohen, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to discuss several issues important to the public health and safety of children. During the meeting, they discussed the need to provide CDC with robust federal funding in order to protect the public health-from the agency's work to ensure children are protected from preventable childhood diseases and illnesses, to monitoring and helping contain infectious disease outbreaks both domestically and abroad, to ensuring the health of pregnant moms and new babies.
"Americans rely on CDC's scientific expertise to safeguard our health. During today's meeting with Director Cohen, we discussed the future of the agency and our shared goal of keeping the agency free of political divisions that undermine science at the expense of the public health," Durbin said.
