Road Safety and Local Priority Updates - Temple Newsam and Halton Ward

The Temple Newsam and Halton Neighbourhood Policing Team continue to target and address the local community and policing priorities set across the ward, to address multiple road safety concerns, vehicular nuisance, and organised criminality.

You said:

  • You wanted to see further positive action taken against road related offences, with a particular focus on speeding offences and parking offences.
  • Continued action taken to address organised criminality and anti-social behaviour.

We have:

  • Conducted targeted road safety and enforcement patrols across the ward, and the Leeds District Off-Road Bike Team have deployed to the area following an increase in reported nuisance motorcycle and quad bike demands.
  • Engaged with local primary schools and nurseries to deliver Road Safety lessons to young people.
  • Worked alongside Youth Services and the dedicated youth engagement Police Officer as part of Operation Anthenmill and Operation Shield, to engage and divert young people away from criminality, whilst ensuring the relevant safeguarding measures are in place.
  • Gathered intelligence, obtained and executed misuse of drugs warrants, as part of Operation Doleedge.
  • Identified, disrupted and arrested an individual involved in the supply of drugs.

Following the above actions taken over the last two months, the deployments have resulted in the following:

  • A warrant executed on the Wykebecks, following reports of suspected drugs supply from the address. A quantity of Class B drugs namely Cannabis was located, and an adult male was reported for summons to the courts.
  • An adult male being arrested for possession with intent to supply (PWITS) Class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon, on the 27th July 2023. A quantity of drugs, money and assets were seized to the approximate value of £100k. The suspect was charged and pleaded guilty in Court.
  • Three traffic offence reports issued in and around the area of Temple Newsam, in line with the current Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for vehicular nuisance and manner of driving. A motorist was also identified at the Temple Newsam site for driving without a driving licence and vehicle Insurance when a vehicle, he was subsequently reported to the courts.
  • One traffic offence report issued on Green Lane, Whitkirk for careless driving.
  • A young person was reported to the courts for multiple road related offences including, failing to stop for officers, no insurance, no licence and using a handheld device whilst driving.

Officers are cracking down on driving offences in the area of Temple Newsam as part of the ongoing Public Spaces Protection Order and Vision Zero.

Leeds East Neighbourhood Policing Teams continue to conduct proactive patrols and will continue to work alongside our Roads Policing Unit, Leeds District Off-Road Bike Team, and partner agencies to address local issues raised in order to provide safer roads and communities for all.
