SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - On Friday, fifth-graders from St. Lambert Elementary received an up-close look at the court system.
Students and teachers visited the Minnehaha County Courthouse to take part in a mock trial led by Judge Susan Sabers.
After learning about the justice system, students filled in as judges, lawyers and jurors during an hour-long session.
"It's just great to watch them learn and participate in stuff and being excited to learn about something new in an activity that they would normally not have," said teacher Alyssa Opland.
The day wrapped up with a presentation on courthouse security and a tour of the building.
Organizers said they hope this experience inspires the next generation to learn more about the justice system.
