Officers arrest felon with a semi auto 12 gauge shotgun

On September 7, a Eugene Police officer developed information that a known convicted felon, Leslie Daryl Ray Beebe, age 31, was in possession of a firearm. He enlisted several other EPD officers to assist him in preparing for a safe investigation and tactical plan to get the firearm off the street and to take Beebe into custody.

On September 8, around 8:24 p.m. the officer spotted Beebe arrive at the 7-Eleven at 1320 W. 7th Avenue. Beebe was a passenger in a Ford Escape operated by Miranda Lorynn Newman, age 23. Multiple officers worked together to conduct a high-risk stop and detained both without incident.

After investigating further, the officer located a semi-automatic 12- gauge shotgun, with a loaded magazine, inside the vehicle. Beebe was arrested and while being transported to Lane County Jail, he advised he had swallowed drugs. He was taken to a medical facility and cleared for jail and then transported back to Lane County Jail and lodged for Possession of Weapons by Certain Felons (Firearm). Newman had three warrants for her arrest and she was taken into custody, and then later cited in lieu of custody on her warrants.

This was a example of self-initiated, proactive police work by the officer, who was able to get the firearm off the street and the felon in custody. Special thanks go to the Central Lane Communications Center, which was short staffed, but prioritized this operation and assisted in a successful resolution.
