Lee, Bostaph, King and Ropp publish on assault case processing

Criminal Justice faculty members Jacqueline Lee, Lisa Bostaph and Laura King collaborated with criminal justice alum John Ropp, now a doctoral candidate at Michigan State University, to write an article titled "A prosecutor's 'ideal' sexual assault case: A mixed-method approach to understanding sexual assault case processing."

The article examines decision making by prosecutors for sexual assault cases, looking at this as a potential factor in high attrition rates. The authors analyzed police reports, prosecutors' case notes to arrest, referrals for prosecution and charging outcomes to inform their research. One of the findings of the article showed that prosecutors often indirectly rely on myths related to sexual assault as a means of comparison. The article was published for Criminology and is available online.
