City of Valdosta Provides Updates on Debris Removal Efforts Following Recent Storm

The City of Valdosta is working diligently alongside local partners to manage the widespread debris across the city following the recent storm. We are deeply grateful to the community members, volunteers, and city crews who have contributed to the cleanup and restoration efforts.

Currently, the city is in the process of securing approval for debris removal contracts. However, residents should be aware that this process will take time. As of now, the City of Valdosta has not been designated as a federal disaster area by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). We expect to have more updates on this matter in the coming days.

In the meantime, residents are asked to assist in the cleanup efforts by keeping debris out of the right of way, as it is delaying power restoration efforts across the city. Additionally, residents should ensure debris is separated and not mixed with construction materials to expedite removal when contracts are approved.

Important Guidelines for Hiring Contractors:

  • Do not rush into repairs or allow anyone to pressure you into an impulse decision.
  • Be sure to photograph any storm damage before repairs and contact your insurance provider.
  • Work only with licensed contractors and verify their credentials.
  • Reputable contractors will not ask for payment upfront.
  • If a contractor cuts trees or debris for you, they must haul the debris away-do not allow them to leave it on the curb.

The City of Valdosta will continue to provide updates as information becomes available. We thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this timeas we work together to restore our community.
