by L.A. Area Chamber

LOS ANGELES, CA - June 27, 2024 - The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce released the following statement regarding the Los Angeles City Council Budget and Finance Committee's action on the Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion Project.

"The L.A. Area Chamber applauds the L.A. City Council Budget and Finance Committee for taking action on the modernization and expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center.

We are pleased to see this important asset prioritized and cleared for the City of Los Angeles. The L.A. Tourism and Convention Board noted that a modernized center would generate$1.3 billion in visitor spending and bring in 3.6 million annual visitors. According to Oxford Economics, a modernized center will generate $69 million for the General Fund, a boost for the funding of city services. The City of Los Angeles needs to take swift action on delivering a world-class convention center, as the region prepares for the global stage in 2028," stated Maria S. Salinas, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
