At ExxonMobil, we're committed to advanced recycling.

That's why we're adding new units in Texas, increasing our advanced recycling capacity to 500 million pounds per year - equivalent to the weight of about 25 Eiffel Towers. That brings us halfway to our goal of 1 billion pounds per year by 2027. The $200+ million investment will add two new units in Baytown and two in Beaumont to help address plastic waste.

How does advanced recycling work?

Advanced recycling transforms used plastic into raw materials for valuable products, from fuels to high-performance chemicals and plastics. Using our existing facilities that help process crude oil, we can convert nearly 90% of used plastic into useful raw materials. Put simply, advanced recycling helps keep plastics out of landfills and incinerators, while also helping our customers meet their sustainability goals around addressing plastic waste.

It's real, it's effective, and it complements mechanical recycling, which can help increase overall recycling rates and address plastic waste.

Coming full circle

Global circularity goals aim to reduce waste and use resources more efficiently. These goals won't be achieved without expanding what can be recycled. That's what advanced recycling can do.

These four new units will help create a circular economy by converting used plastic into building blocks for new products, and they'll increase our capacity to six times what it is today. Since 2022, our Baytown plant - one of the largest advanced recycling facilities in North America - has processed more than 70 million pounds of used plastics.

We plan to continue expanding our advanced recycling operations across North America and around the world.
