(HARLINGEN, Texas) - Robert Morman and Amanda Sandoval, both employees at Texas State Technical College 's Harlingen campus, have been recognized with 2024 Chancellor's Cornerstone Awards.
The yearly awards process begins with TSTC employees submitting nominations, which are reviewed before being sent to Mike Reeser, TSTC's chancellor and CEO, who makes the final decision.
"The TSTC Cornerstone Award celebrates more than just achievement," Reeser said. "The recipients also positively impact the workplace at TSTC through modeling our core values on a day-to-day basis. So they do more than get things done - they help the entire team be better."
Morman, who has worked as a Vocational Nursing instructor in Harlingen for five years, said receiving the award is one of the most rewarding accomplishments he has achieved at TSTC.
"A few years ago, I remember asking my wife, 'How does an employee win that award?'" he said. "She responded, 'Make sure that you work hard and hope you get noticed.' I spent that time making sure my students grasped their medical education. It took some time to fully comprehend that I was recognized."
Morman said his interactions with students, graduates and instructors make the accolade meaningful to him.
"It's a fantastic feeling when students reach out about clinical situations or when graduates ask about career advice," he said. "I am blessed to work with a collaborative nursing team."
Sandoval has worked at TSTC for 11 years and now is senior manager of the Registrar's Office.
"Being recognized by my colleagues is something that I will treasure for a long time," she said. "When they reached out to congratulate me, that's when it felt impactful."
Sandoval added that she strives to lead by example.
"We will always have the students' interest at the forefront by providing great customer service," she said.
Registration continues for the spring semester at TSTC. For more information, go to tstc.edu.
