Greenberg Traurig’s Nikki E. Dobay to Speak at ABA Virtual 2024 Fall Tax Meeting

ST. LOUIS - Sept. 23, 2024 - Greenberg Traurig, LLPTax Practice Shareholder Nikki E. Dobay will speak at the American Bar Association (ABA) Virtual 2024 Fall Tax Meeting and at the in-person State and Local Tax (SALT) Fall Meeting Sept. 27.

The conference features leading tax attorneys and government officials from around the United States speaking on the most recent state, local, and federal tax policies.

At the SALT meeting, Dobay will speak on "Unfair Apportionment: Can the External Consistency Rule Help?" a panel discussing the constitutional "external consistency" rule. Dobay and the panel members will cover the origins and applications of the rule, as well as its impact on state and local tax issues. The panel will also discuss current cases, including the Ellingson case, which is currently under consideration for review by the U.S. Supreme Court, where this issue is front and center.

Dobay will also speak on a virtual panel, entitled "Hear Me! How and When to Get Comments on Tax Matters to Lawmakers," which is being presented by the Tax Policy and Simplification Committee. This panel will cover both federal and state tax issues, with Dobay speaking about her experience engaging on SALT legislative and regulation changes.

Dobay is nationally known for her deep experience and understanding of state tax policy and the legislative process. She also advises her clients on sophisticated multistate tax issues as well as the consequences and planning opportunities related to corporate mergers and acquisitions transactions and oversees SALT controversy matters, ranging from audits to appellate litigation, and involving sales and use taxes, income and franchise taxes, property taxes, and constitutional issues.

Dobay regularly engages with statewide business and taxpayer associations and departments of revenue, as well as national tax administrator organizations, including the Federation of Tax Administrators, the Multistate Tax Commission, and the National Conference of State Legislatures, on key state and local tax issues impacting multijurisdictional taxpayers.
