Open House Format Provides Opportunity for Direct Input from the Community, Local Businesses and Other Stakeholders

BALTIMORE, MD (September 26, 2024)-The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will host open house meetings for the Baltimore Red Line this fall to share potential route alignment options, key project considerations, technical updates and to gather community input. The sessions will be held at locations along the Red Line corridor from October 22 to October 26. The public comment period will be open through November 25.

"Ongoing, meaningful interaction with communities along the Baltimore Red Line corridor is our aim at every stage of the process - from planning to design and construction," said Maryland Transit

Administrator Holly Arnold. "By sharing their valuable feedback, community members are enhancing our understanding of the priorities of communities along this vital east-west transit corridor and helping shape the future of transit for the Baltimore region."

This summer, the Maryland Transit Administration announced light rail as the project's transit mode and reduced the number of route alternatives from six to three. The agency has continued its technical analysis, coordination with local jurisdictional partners and community engagement for these three options. Public input will help to define the specific route (referred to as the "alignment") for the Red Line this winter, including the extent to which the project includes surface or tunneled segments.

At the open houses, the Maryland Transit Administration will share analysis to date, obtain input on questions which are under review and highlight topics where analysis is continuing. Open house materials will highlight community considerations associated with each of the three alternatives, a summary of evaluation metrics for each of these options and the feedback received from the community over the past year. The materials will also be posted on the project website at https://redlinemaryland.comin English and Spanish. Feedback can be submitted via the website for those who cannot attend in person.
