On November 9, 2024, State Police of Brunswick arrested Nickifor Popov, 21, of Petersburg, NY, for Assault in the second degree, Reckless Endangerment in the second degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second degree, Obstructing Firefighting Operations, Criminal Nuisance in the second degree, Driving While Intoxicated, and numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.
On November 9, 2024, at about 8:43 a.m. Troopers responded to the reports of a one-car crash off the roadway of State Route 7 in Hoosick, NY. The driver was identified as Popov. The investigation determined Popov was westbound on State Route 7 when he failed to navigate a curve, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole and several trees. Following the crash, several Hoosick Fall Fire Department members arrived to assist Popov and a passenger in the vehicle. Popov reportedly was uncooperative and agitated and punched one of the volunteer fireman. The fireman sustained injuries during the incident. The passenger was also injured and was treated by EMS on the scene.
Popov was airlifted to Albany Medical Center a short time later for injuries he sustained during the crash. While there, samples were taken to determine the alcohol content of his blood.
On November 14, 2024, Popov surrendered himself to SP Brunswick for processing. He was then arraigned at the Hoosick Village Court and released after posting set bail.
