Biggest Impacts From Helene To Hit Alpharetta Friday Morning

HELENE TO IMPACT ALPHARETTA IN MORNING HOURS
UPDATE: 8:30 PM, Thursday, 9/26/2024

Based on the latest update from the National Weather Service, the approach of Hurricane Helene has slowed significantly. As a result, Alpharetta is now expected to see the most powerful winds and largest impacts from the storm between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM on Friday, September 27.

* Sustained winds of 48 mph with gusts between 56 to 74 mph in our area.
* Expect widespread and extended power outages due to downed trees.
* Heavy rain may cause flash flooding.

We urge all residents to prioritize safety during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Here are some things that you can do:

STAY INFORMED
Follow trusted sources like the National Weather Service, the City of Alpharetta, and local news for the latest information. The City will be updating our website (www.alpharetta.ga.us) and social media accounts (Facebook, Nextdoor, Twitter) throughout the storm event. Be sure to follow the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety on those social media platforms for real-time updates and safety tips.

STAY INDOORS
Avoid unnecessary travel and stay off of the roads during and immediately after the storm so that emergency personnel and utility crews can move quickly and operate. The high winds expected with this storm will be capable of hurtling debris with enough force to cause serious injury, and any power lines that come down will pose the danger of electrocution.

AVOID FLOODED AREAS
Never drive through flooded roads. "Turn around, don't drown."

CALL 911 ONLY FOR LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCIES
Do not call 911 to report downed trees, power outages, or other non-life-threatening situations. If you need police or fire services for non-life-threatening issues, call 678-297-6300. To report other issues, use our SeeClickFix app available on your smartphone or via the City website (https://www.alpharetta.ga.us/about/tools-available/seeclickfix).
