In observance of Native American Heritage Month, Tiffin University is proud to host a special presentation titled "What Does It Mean to Be Native American in Today's Day and Age" Tuesday, November 12, at 11:00 a.m. in Chisholm Auditorium located in Franks Hall. This event is free and open to the public.
This presentation, led by the Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio (NAICCO), will offer an in-depth look at the center's vital role as an urban Indian center in Ohio. Attendees will learn about NAICCO's mission, the Native communities it serves and the individuals who personify its vision and mission. The session will also explore key aspects of NAICCO's work, including NAICCO Cuisine, the Land Back movement and an overview of what it means to be Native American in today's society.
"I am excited to celebrate Native American Heritage Month at TU and to bring attention to the land we stand on, acknowledging the history and legacy of the Native peoples who have cared for and protected it for generations," said Javier Solorzano Parada, Assistant Vice President for Intercultural and Community Engagement and Title IX Coordinator at Tiffin University. "My hope is that this event provides an opportunity for all-students, staff, faculty and community members-to learn something new, reflect on our shared responsibility and honor the cultures and histories that have shaped this land. Aligned with our CCU values, we aim to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the Native American experience in today's world. A special thank you to Dr. Shannon De Clute for her collaboration in bringing the Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio (NAICCO) to TU campus."
"By asking NAICCO to present at TU, our goal is to engage the entire community in dialogues that center authentic voices around issues of importance and timeliness," said Dr. Shannon De Clute, Professor of Psychology at Tiffin University. "My hope is that this is a part of a larger conversation about history, equity, diversity and inclusion that is connected to daily life at TU."
