Lincoln City Libraries invites artists to submit mural design proposals for the west-facing exterior wall of South Branch Library, 2675 South St. Artists may submit proposals at luxcenter.org/mural-application until 11:59 p.m. August 28.

Ryan Wieber, Lincoln City Libraries Director, encouraged applicants to create a design that reflects the character of the location.

"This mural offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the cultural and artistic landscape of South Branch Library and its surrounding neighborhoods," Wieber said.

The mural will cover up to 50% of the brick wall that faces the parking lot on the west side of the building. The selected design will be painted on industrial paper which will be applied to the building's surface as a temporary installation.

The winner is expected to be announced in early September. Submissions will be reviewed by City of Lincoln officials, representatives from the Lux Center for the Arts and the Country Club Neighborhood Association.

The chosen artist will receive $3,000, funded by a grant from the Country Club Neighborhood Association. Materials will be provided within an agreed-upon budget and the LUX Center for the Arts will offer administrative assistance to support the artist throughout the project. The installation of the mural is scheduled for early October. Dates will be finalized in coordination with the selected artist.
