GVRA Forges Relationship with Georgia Partnership For Excellence in Education

Over the past year, a relationship has been forged between GVRA and the Rural Learning Network, a group created by the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education (GPEE).

In addition to the networking opportunities that have resulted from the partnership, GVRA recently received a published mention in an annual report produced by GPEE. "In keeping with goals outlined in our strategic plan, GVRA is committed to serving all Georgians, not just those individuals residing in urban or suburban communities," said GVRA Executive Director Chris Wells. "I'm grateful to the Georgia Partnership, and specifically members of the Rural Learning Network, for their significant efforts in publicizing many GVRA initiatives, including the Bud McCall Post-Secondary Grant. Leveraging partnerships such as these helps us promote GVRA services in hard-toreach rural areas throughout Georgia."

Comprised of approximately 160 members, the Rural Learning Network meets virtually once a month. Members come from a variety of sectors, including early childhood educators, K-12 educators, representatives from chambers of commerce, economic development staff, and educators from colleges and universities.

Kathleen Da Silva, GPEE regional engagement manager, noted, "The Georgia Partnership's Rural Learning Network (RLN) is dedicated to connecting and fostering collaboration across Georgia's rural communities to increase educational attainment opportunities and to promote economic development. GVRA's involvement with the RLN has greatly benefited the essence of community and collaboration within the network. In fact, several of our monthly guest speakers have been GVRA staff members. Chris Myers, public outreach coordinator at GVRA, actively shares information, brings an engaging presence to the meetings, and forms partnerships within the RLN. We are deeply grateful for GVRA's involvement in the RLN!"

According to the Georgia Partnership, the network was formed a few years ago to increase connections among smaller communities across the state. The purpose of the network is to amplify best practices in educational attainment and economic development. Member benefits include an opportunity to participate in ongoing conversations about strides being made in rural Georgia, along with challenges that still need to be addressed. During the meetings, members are encouraged to share their own news, upcoming events, and opportunities for engagement. The Georgia Partnership relies on data and ideas collected from the Rural Learning Network to inform statewide policy platforms, including its annual Top Ten Issues to Watch.
