The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is actively investigating a number of arsons in southwest and southeast Edmonton since May of this year.

In May 2024, police began investigating a suspicious fire in Edmonton's Strathearn neighbourhood. Since then, six additional suspicious fires have been reported to police in the Cloverdale, King Edward Park and Holyrood neighbourhoods.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, police issued a news releaseregarding two of these arsons that took place in Holyrood and Cloverdale.

Police are asking residents in these affected communities to come forward with information related to suspicious activity or doorbell camera footage that might help to identify anyone who is responsible for these arsons. They are also asking residents to ensure that their doorbell cameras are registered and working, including enabling the camera's motion sensor settings.

Police are continuing to investigate these incidents, including an arson that was reported on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, in the King Edward Park neighbourhood. They will also be proactively patrolling throughout the affected areas in southwest and southeast Edmonton.

There are no connections to Project Gaslight at this time.

"While we are unsure at this time if these incidents are connected, we are actively investigating seven suspicious fires that have thankfully not injured anyone," says A/S/Sgt. Chantelle Kortbeek of the EPS' Downtown Investigative Response Team. "As this investigation continues, we are asking residents to be mindful of unusual activity in their neighbourhoods. Reporting these activities will assist us in our efforts to identify and arrest the suspect or suspects who are committing these arsons."

Anyone who has information regarding these arsons is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
