FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Beginning the week of October 7, 2024, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania NMP will commence a maintenance project to repair and repave park roads at Chatham, the "Stonewall" Jackson Death Site, and Hill-Ewell Drive on the Wilderness Battlefield.

At Chatham, the parking area will be repaved. This work will start on October 7 and should be complete by October 19. We will try to facilitate access to the site as much as is reasonable, though there may be times when there is no vehicle access to Chatham. When parking at Chatham in not possible, the Chatham grounds will be available to visit by foot from the trail at Pratt Park. Check the park website or social media for updates while the project in ongoing.

At the "Stonewall" Jackson Death Site and on Hill-Ewell Drive workers will make repairs to the pavement surface. This may cause delays and some limited access during construction, but should not prevent visitor use of the areas.

This work part of a larger Road Preservation project that will be completed in 2025. The Road Preservation project includes paving rehabilitation of park road surfaces. Work will include the mill and overlay of failing pavement, chip sealing roadways, fixing road shoulders, patching as necessary, the addition of geotechnical fabric, and pavement markings. This project will complete infrastructure improvements that will help maintain the park today and for the future.

The projected timeline is subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen factors.
