Denver City Council Approves 2025 City Budget

DENVER - Today, the Denver City Council approved the city's 2025 budget, endorsing a financial plan that reflects community needs while balancing the constraints of tight revenues. The final budget represents the culmination of months of collaborative effort between the Council and the mayor's office to ensure city resources are directed toward essential funding goals.

In May, the Council issued a letter to the mayor(PDF, 468KB)outlining its budget goals, urging the mayor to focus on various categories such as community safety, housing, health services, and climate resilience. Following the mayor's draft budget proposal submitted in September, the Council responded with additional recommendations(PDF, 680KB)aimed at strengthening areas within city programs. The final budget incorporates elements of these recommendations, aligning the Council and the mayor on strategies for Denver's future.

"The City Council worked diligently to incorporate community priorities into the 2025 budget, resulting in increased support for rental assistance, youth programs, and assistance for local businesses facing construction-related impacts," said Council President Amanda P. Sandoval, "I'm incredibly proud of Mayor Johnston's collaboration with the Council in shaping the 2025 budget to reflect the needs of our community. Together, we're investing in a stronger, more inclusive Denver for future generations."

Council President Pro Tem Diana Romero Campbell added, "We continue to focus on the Denver City Council's key priorities, addressing the diverse and evolving needs of our community. From additional funding for youth programs to safe routes to school to strengthening public health inspections of residential properties, we were able to align the Council's priorities with the needs of Denver residents to pass the 2025 budget."

The Council's budget process progressed with community feedback, reflecting a commitment to advancing Denver's long-term well-being while navigating the challenges of limited revenue.
