New Contract Improves Access for Healthy Blue Members

DURHAM, N.C. - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina's (Blue Cross NC's) Medicaid managed care plan, Healthy Blue, has reached an agreement for its members to seek services in network with WakeMed Health and Hospitals.

"With this agreement, our Healthy Blue members in the Triangle have even more options to meet their health care needs," said Angela Boykin, Healthy Blue CEO. "We are proud to partner with WakeMed as well as hospitals and providers across the state to make health care more affordable, easier to navigate and accessible for all."

The contract, which is effective as of July 1, 2024, provides in-network access for Healthy Blue members at WakeMed hospitals, WakeMed Physician Practices locations and 210 PET Imaging.

Healthy Blue is the largest Medicaid managed care plan in the state, connecting 593,000 North Carolinians - including more than 35,000 Wake County residents - to high quality health care. All of the state's major hospital systems are now in-network with Healthy Blue and accessible to its members.

WakeMed's 1,003-bed system comprises a network of facilities throughout the Triangle area, including three full-service hospitals, eight emergency departments, a dedicated Children's Hospital and Rehabilitation Hospital, two exceptional Trauma Centers-a Level I Trauma Center in Raleigh and a Level III Trauma Center in Cary, and more than 165 physician and physical therapy practice offices.
