Dean West receives KY/TN AWA Tennessee Meritorious Award

Dean has worked for the Murfreesboro Water Resources Department at the Stones River Water Treatment Plant since August 15, 1997. He has over 26 years of experience and holds a Tennessee Grade IV Water Treatment and Grade II Distribution license from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. He also holds the credentials of a Class I Professional Operator certification from Water Professionals International (WPI) formally Association of Boards of Certification (ABC). He was promoted to Shift Supervisor in October 2011.

As Shift Supervisor, Dean is one of four shift supervisors overseeing the operation of the Stones River Water Treatment Plant. The plant is a 20-MGD lime softening and membrane plant that was last expanded in 2007-2010. Other major components of the plant include standby power generation, onsite sodium hypochlorite generation system, water process control laboratory, granular activated carbon contactors for removal of taste, odor, total organic carbon, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products. He is responsible for training operators assigned to his shift and is one of the supervisors on our HAZMAT team.

Dean is a dedicated employee who always gives 100% effort. This is seen by his commitment to continuing education, his embracing of new technologies, his ensure that his shift's assigned areas clean and organized and his ensuring that water leaving the water plant during his shift of the highest quality possible.

Dean is active member of AWWA and the KY/TN AWWA. He is a member of the Water Quality and Plant Operations Committee and serving as Room Monitor or Room Moderator at every Water Professionals Conference. He was also a member of our Top Ops team for many years. This year Dean will be the coach for the Plant's Top Ops team.

Dean has a wife of 30 years, Deanna, and they have two kids, Katie, and Dean. His hobbies are golfing, history (especially World War II), and Chicago sports.
