Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen will visit South Korea and Japan from 9 to 13 September 2024. Minister Häkkänen will be accompanied on the visit by a research and defence industry delegation put together by Business Finland. The aim of the visit is to develop defence and technology cooperation with South Korea and Japan and to strengthen bilateral relations.
Minister of Defence Häkkänen will meet with South Korean Minister of Defence Kim Yong-Hyun and Foreign Minister Cho Tae-Yul and with Japanese Minister of Defence Minoru Kihara. The meetings will focus on developing defence cooperation and capabilities and on a variety of topical NATO and EU issues.
"We want to strengthen relations with our Indo-Pacific partners, whose security is increasingly linked to that of Europe. We also see plenty of opportunities to deepen defence materiel cooperation," Minister of Defence Häkkänen says.
During his trip, Minister Häkkänen will also take part in the Korea-Finland Innovation Forum 2024, the Seoul Defense Dialogue and the Finland-Japan Defence Industry Seminar, among other events.
