SEIU’s Verrett: In overturning Chevron Doctrine, Supreme Court “undermines the government agencies we rely on to protect us”

April Verrett, International President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), issued the following in response to the Supreme Court overturning the Chevron ruling:

WASHINGTON, D.C. - "Today's rulings in Relentless Inc. v. Department of Commerce and Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo are sad reminders of how much the Trump Administration hurt working families. The same MAGA justices who took away our reproductive freedom, weakened voting rights and made it harder to keep our communities safe are now giving unelected judges more opportunities to abuse their power and attack our democracy. This decision undermines the government agencies we rely on to protect us from unsafe work conditions, deadly food and medication and harmful pollution.

While this decision will undoubtedly hurt working people, we will not give up our fight for a democracy and justice system that works for every person no matter where we're from, what we look like or what we do for a living. SEIU members and our allies will keep standing up, building political power to ensure workers have an equal say in government and the workplace, and holding our elected officials accountable so we can upend corporate control over our lives and dismantle structural racism."
